I call Hummingbird House the “secret garden” venue, and it truly earns that name. Located in East Austin, the property feels like stepping into a private, overgrown botanical garden in the middle of the city.

What I love about photographing here:

For starters, the greenery here is lush in a way that’s genuinely rare for Central Texas. String lights also weave through the trees, and a charming greenhouse structure anchors one corner of the property. Additionally, the landscaping varies enough that every corner offers a different look. Overall, it photographs beautifully in both daylight and evening light, so you have a lot of flexibility with your timeline.

Because this space is intimate and garden-forward, it works best for smaller guest counts. If you’re planning a large wedding, for instance, this may not be the right fit. However, if you picture an intimate gathering surrounded by greenery, it’s hard to beat.

Barr Mansion: A Historic Mansion with Enchanting Greenery

Barr Mansion earns its place on this list if the secret garden vibe matters more to you than the villa look. Barr Mansion books quickly during peak wedding season, so reach out early if this venue speaks to you.

Best for: Couples who lean more toward a lush, English-style secret garden feeling than a European villa look.

Château Nouvelle: Worth the Drive for a True European Villa Feel

Château Nouvelle sits outside Houston, so it’s technically outside the Austin area. That said, I couldn’t leave it off this list. Out of every venue here, it comes closest to an actual European villa. French-inspired architecture, stone details, and manicured grounds give it that old world estate feeling from the moment you arrive.

What I love about photographing here:

The architecture does a lot of the work here. Stone facades, elegant windows, and formal landscaping create a European backdrop in nearly every direction. Because the grounds feel so intentional, you don’t need much extra styling to get that villa look in your photos.

Something to plan around:

Since Château Nouvelle is in Houston, factor the extra drive time into your day if most of your guests are coming from Austin.

Best for: Couples who want the strongest European villa feeling on this list and don’t mind traveling a bit further to get it.
